A loan of $1,200 helped buying of welding materials and sale of palm wine.

Thomas's story

Thomas is 63 years old and has seven children. The loss of his first wife and two sons, who assisted him in taking care of the younger children, brought hardship to his life. He decided to join GHAPE in 1999. He received his first loan of $30, which he invested in the production of window frames, iron doors and the sale of palm wine. His community has benefited substantially from his iron door business in particular; robbery is very rampant and with the availability of iron doors, thieves find it difficult to break into houses. He also supplies palm wine for celebrations and to small retailers.

Given a loan of $1200, he plans to buy a filling machine, iron rods and expand the size of his raffia palm bush for increased production of palm wine.
