A loan of $1,000 helped buy sewing materials.

Marcela's story

Marcela, 46, lives with her husband in her own home. Her son, José, is independent of her.

She has been selling clothes for five years. She learned to make clothes when she was very young. She distributes the clothes to her neighbors who are her primary customers. Marcela likes her work a lot, so she works with dedication while making her pretty finished products. She is currently making polo shirts and t shirts for children.

But, it is not as easy as it seems. To make a pretty garment requires various hours of effort cutting the fabric, joining the pieces, sewing them, etc. Happily for her, the passage of the years has made her very experienced with the material. What used to take her a long time she now does more rapidly.

It is going very well for her because she has enough orders, not just from her neighbors but from other places. She now has an order in the San Juan de Lurigancho district, which is three hours by car from the Ventanilla district where she lives.

Seeing her business grow gives her the hope of knowing that she can improve much more. That is why, in the future, she would like to have a larger shop with more sewing machines, overcast stitch machines, etc.

She has worked with Microfinanzas Prisma for three years, but this is her first individual loan. Previously, she received loans through her community bank. She will use the money to buy a big quantity of fabric to make backpacks, which is the order she recently received. She also needs to buy zippers and other implements to give them a good finish.
