A loan helped to purchase a water filtration system, to provide clean drinking water for its students.

Buziga Islamic School's story

Greetings from Uganda! This is Leila. She is the Head Teacher of Buziga Islamic School, a mixed school in the urban area of Kampala. The school serves 600 students. The school has requested a loan to cover the cost of installing and maintaining an Ultra Filter water filtration system, to provide clean drinking water for its students. The school does not currently have consistent access to clean drinking water, and therefore, it has to spend a considerable portion of its budget on firewood, which is used to boil water for the children. Installing a water filtration system will save the school money in the long-term, as the cost of firewood will be reduced. The loan will enable the school to purchase an Ultra Filter water treatment system with a 750 litre tank, which will be big enough to store clean drinking water for the students every day.

Buziga Islamic School will repay its loan from the school fees, which they collect each term. Leila hopes that having access to safe drinking water will ultimately improve her students' concentration and attendance, by reducing the number of children that fall sick from water-borne diseases. She also hopes that providing safe drinking water will increase the number of students coming to the school.

This loan is special because:

It gives students and staff safe drinking water.
