A loan of $650 helped a member purchase of used clothing and beans.

Benkadi Group's story

The four members of the Benkadi group are married women on average 29 years old, with an average of two children. They live in nuclear families, with their children and husbands, in the neighborhood of Médine in the heart of the town of Bougouni, which is part of the third administrative region of the Republic of Mali.

They met each other through commercial and social relationships.

They decided to participate in the loan program of the financial institution Soro Yiriwasso in order to buy bales of used clothing for cash and to provide their customers with goods of quality. This is their seventh group loan and all the previous loans have been repaid fully.

With this loan, they are planning to buy 7 bales of used clothing and 300 kg of beans. The used clothing is purchased from wholesalers in Bamako and the beans are bought from local producers in the neighboring villages of Bougouni. All these goods are then sold on the Bougouni market, retail and for cash to customers who are women and men.

They hope to each make a monthly profit of 30,000 FCFA [about USD 50], which will be used to reimburse the loan and to provide for the health care and well being of the children.
