Florence's story

Florence Y. is a 42-year-old married mother of four children, one son and three daughters, who are currently in junior high and primary school. She lives with her family in a house in the town of Kofiase, a farming/trading community near Dormaa, the district capital, in the Brong Ahafo region.

Florence's husband is a teacher by profession, and Florence is a food vendor. She prepares and sells kenkey, a food made from corn dough and served hot with ground pepper and fried fish. She prepares the food at home and hawks to sell in her community. Florence procures bags of maize from nearby communities. She has been in business for three years and wants a loan to purchase bags of maize in bulk. She hopes to expand her business and give her children the best education she can afford.
