Ion's story

Ion is a 24-year-old farmer from Gherman village in the Ungheni region of Moldova. He isn’t married and lives with his parents and brother. Ion is a student. He studies agronomy at the Agriculture University in Chisinau.

Ion’s mother has been growing vegetables in greenhouses for 28 years. Ion picked up this occupation and now he grows peppers and eggplant for selling. He has 4 greenhouses over a total of 1 hectare. Additionally, Ion farms 7 hectares of land where her grows sunflowers, corn, and wheat.

Ion has to purchase fertilizers and to pay agriculture workers. Since he does not have enough financial resources to do so, Ion has decided to take out a loan. As a result, he will be able to pay for his studies at the university and will have the potential to support himself.
