Florence's story

A. Florence was born on January 25, 1986 in the County of MONO. Florence is single and has no children. For 5 years, Florence has been selling foodstuffs (beans, maize, millet, sorghum, and manioc flour). Florence worked at this same business, together with her mother, after leaving school. She buys her merchandise from rural people in the villages of Benin, outside of Cotonou.

For 4 years, Florence has been taking out loans from ALIDé and always respects the terms of her repayment schedule. She has been able to develop her business thanks to the various loans she has received from ALIDé. In order to satisfy the needs of her ever-increasing clientele, Florence is now requesting a 5th loan from ALIDé.

The signification of ALIDé in the local language of Benin, Fon, is "there is always a pathway for the poorest of the poor". Benin is a small country in West Africa next door to Nigeria, where the average yearly income stands at US$ 1,500 per inhabitant per year.
