A loan helped to purchase a solar power system: a 150W solar panel, a 100 Amp battery, AC and an LED TV.

Hisham's story

Hisham is a married man and a holder of a Bachelors' degree. He is 34 years old and the father of two children who live with him in a rented house in Dhamar governorate, Yemen.

Hisham works in the private sector, and as it is for all the Yemenis, his salary hardly covers the essential expenses, such as rent and food, even in normal circumstances. Since last year, the situation in Yemen has completely gone to the worst. Prices of essential food stuffs have doubled, and no one can afford them.

In addition, most public services have stopped, especially electricity, water, and gas. People are struggling to secure such services from other sources, although there are subsequent costs. The big dilemma is that no one knows when the war will come to end. Hisham's family are not able to bear the lack of electricity anymore, especially with the increase in temperature.

Hisham has decided to apply for a loan in order to purchase a solar power system, but the problem is that financial institutions are requiring high collateral and asking high interest rates. When he discovered that Al-Amal Microfinance Bank has resumed its activities and grants loans for purchasing solar power systems without any interest rates, he immediately visited the bank branch in Dhamar city and asked for a loan of 100,000 YER to purchase a 150W solar panel, a 100 Amp battery, and a AC and DC LED TV.

Hisham hopes that the war in Yemen ends as soon as possible and they can live peacefully.
