A loan of $1,050 helped to buy used spare parts.

Moussa's story

Born on August 9, 1978 in N’Golo-Diassa, located about 6 km from Sikasso City, Mr. Moussa Berthé lives with two children and his wife in a large traditional extended family in the village of his birth in Sikasso Prefecture (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali). He has been a mechanic by profession for eight years now. And concurrent to this trade, he buys and sells used spare parts. He is in high demand by those in the garage business and by vehicle owners for the quality of his merchandise.

To enable his burgeoning customer base to acquire quality auto parts and without having to run about town to do so, he decided to join the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso on September 10, 2008. He is now on his second individual loan. His preceding loan was repaid in advance. With the current loan, he intends to buy piston rods, camshafts, pistons, rims, etc. The merchandise (spare parts) comes from automobiles disassembled locally and is resold in a store located within his garage.

He envisions using this loan to realize a monthly profit of 150,000 francs CFA that will be used essentially to augment his working capital, to help with family expenses, to make loan interest payments, and to invest the rest in his business.
