A loan helped to buy organic manure, fertilizers, tomato plants, and other needed materials to build a greenhouse and grow organic tomatoes.

Norma Iris's story

Norma is 42 years old, and married to Alex, with whom she has 3 children. Her main work is in agriculture, producing certified organic fair trade coffee, which is sold by Kiva Field Partner COCAFCAL. Norma is a member of COCAFCAL, and in addition she is an active member of a women's group that processes coffee products.

Norma dreams of growing her women's group, not limited only to coffee, and that their earnings are good to improve the quality of life for all members. Norma is passionate about topics that relate to diversifying income sources. For that reason, she wants to build a greenhouse to grow tomatoes, sweet peppers, and cucumbers, which she will sell with the help of her women's group.

Growing food in greenhouses is a novelty in this region, as it allows for organic production and improves the quality of the food produced. Norma is requesting a loan to buy materials to build her greenhouse, in which she will produce, with COCAFCAL technical support, 100% organic tomatoes to sell in local markets. With the income earned from selling tomatoes, Norma hopes to improve her family's opportunities and grow her women's group
