A loan helped to purchase improved farm inputs that will increase his farm yields.

Murtaila's story

Murtaila is a Babban Gona maize farmer from Kutusu Village. He is a hardworking married man with four children and he lives in a mud house with his family. His youngest children are Sani and Jibrin who he hopes will grow up to be bankers.

In the past, his family was only able to eat two meals a day despite working several hours on the farm. As a Babban Gona member, Murtaila now has access to good seeds, fertilizers, herbicides, and other quality farm inputs that help him optimize his farm and attain yields of up to 3.5 metric tones per hectare--2.3 times the national average in Nigeria--and increase his earnings to up to 3.5 times the national average. With this increase in yield, he is now able to ensure that his family will never go hungry again.

This season, Murtaila will use the income he makes from his maize sales to pay his children's school fees. Murtaila’s greatest memory as a Babban Gona farmer is when he bought a car. He is confident that with Babban Gona his future is secure and that he will have many more great memories and amazing accomplishments.
