A loan of $10,000 helped launch my first series of IMBY pop-ups.

Sara's story

Born and raised in New York, I am a necessary troublemaker who never believed in accepting the status quo. I care deeply about the world of social innovation and using business as a driving force for change. For the past three years I have supported over 200 entrepreneurs in starting their own startups, now I am excited to start my own entrepreneurial journey with the focus on an issue that's very important to me: ethical fashion.

A couple years ago my friend started her own fashion line and started posting about her experience. As I read more and more about her work to combat fast fashion, I took a pledge to only shop in a way that was "ethical." For me that means buying items that were made locally, made in a responsible and sustainable way, or thrifted. This was no easy feat! It required a lot of time online and guessing if brands I never heard of would fit and if I would like the quality. Armed with my experience supporting entrepreneurs and my passion for building things from scratch, I started imby to bridge the gap I was experiencing between the consumer finding ethical fashion brands and the brands needing additional outlets to sell their goods and become known. IMBY was born shortly thereafter. The rest is history!
