A loan of $950 helped buy corn, beans, firewood, cheese, cream.

Mercedes Del Socorro's story

Mercedes Sánchez is 54 years old and lives in the Campo Bruce neighborhood of Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. She is the single mother of three children, all of whom are now independent. Mercedes' short- and long-term goals are to improve her home and improve her quality of life. Since Mercedes is a single mother, she is responsible for all personal and household spending. When she was quite young she started washing and ironing clothes, caring for children, and selling on the street. She now has her own small tortilla-selling business and is a very enterprising, hard-working woman. Thanks to Afodenic loans, she has been able to acquire funds to continue expanding her business. She will use this loan as working capital, and will buy corn, firewood, beans, cheese and cream so that she can produce and sell more tortillas and thus earn more in profits.
