A loan of $5,000 helped buy furniture and equipment for my newly renovated salon.

Cherry's story

I am originally from Guangdong, China, and I moved to the United States with my husband after getting married. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always had the passion for everything related to beauty. As a matter of fact, styling my little sister’s hair was a great pleasure and inspiration during my teenage years. However, I was never able to learn more about beauty services due to the objection of my father, who is a businessman. In China, hairdressers are not well-respected. Instead of pursuing my interest, I helped manage stores for my father, this experience taught me how to run a business.

The first few years in the US were busy and tough for me. I had to catch up with the language and take care of my two very young daughters. In 2010, I decided to pursue a change in life. I wanted to take up my dream profession since childhood. I went to a beauty school for professional training in hair styling and makeup. I started my new career after successfully earning my license. Since then, I have never stopped learning. Whenever I can, I take advanced classes and acquire new certificates. Last year, I also went back to China to catch up on trends in Asia.

Not only do I want to stay in trend with the industry, I also want to always be able to provide unique and high-quality services to my clients. Today, I am confident about my skills and experience. My clients are always happy about my services because my experience allows me to find the most suitable services for different hair/skin types. Taking my career one more step further, I started to run my own hair & beauty salon in South Philly, serving the local community.
