Femmes Commerçantes 17 Group

Senegal
THIES, Senegal / Retail

A loan of $1,050 helped a member purchase of local products in the rural weekly markets and fishing areas for resale in town.

Femmes Commerçantes 17 Group's story

The 5 members of this group have been good neighbors for a long time. They are in a federation of all the women of the town of Thies. That group has been subdivided in groups of 5 to facilitate management. The groups are created by the affinity of the women themselves.

They have various money-earning ventures and help their husbands support their respective families. The group finances itself through an internal dues system but with the loan from IMCEC, it finds greater financial input and a short term for the financing of their businesses. Most of the women have little stands in the central open-air market of the town of Thies where they sell vegetables, fish, jewelry, cloth, etc.

In this group: Thérèse, Oumy, Fatou, Aminata, Venise
