A loan of $8,000 helped bring 300 new laying hens to the farm, purchase a moveable electric fence to protect our ladies from hungry coyotes and to build their mobile chicken coup.

Lisa (Ellee)'s story

Solidarity Farm is a worker-owned farm, co-owned by four unique and hard-working individuals. Hernan was born and raised in Mazatlan, Mexico where he played professional basketball and base guitar in a popular punk rock band. Ellee grew up just miles from the farm and has dedicated nearly two decades to launching innovative food justice projects, including San Diego's first urban farm and food stamp accessible farmers market. Olivier (not pictured here) fell in love with farming along side his grandfather in rural France and co-operates a grassroots bike collective that teaches bike building and repair to low income adults and kids. And Steven, the farm's "chicken whisperer", boasts an awesome New Jersey accent and is an exceptional cartoonist. Our eclectic bunch has come together because we share a passion for health, social and environmental justice, and working cooperatively to sustain ourselves. The farm was founded in 2012 and after two years of learning the land, establishing a customer base, and developing our business model, we are ready to expand our operations and become full-time farmers.
