A loan of $5,000 helped purchase cattle to increase my cattle herd.

Weston's story

When I was 11 years old, I got involved with my family ranch and from day one I fell in love with being around livestock. My family has raised black angus cattle on a small scale for 50 years, and I've been raising cattle with my family for 15 years.

I started my business a couple years ago knowing that it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I feel that I know how to be profitable in the cattle industry - I know how to raise the animals well, bring the animals to market, and manage the financial aspects of the business.

I believe success in the cattle industry will not only provide me with a great living but will also inspire others on the Warm Springs Reservation to be successful in ranching or other industries which they choose to pursue. I also want to set a positive example for youth on the reservation, and do all I can to assist others so they can be successful ranchers. The business community here is very small, and we’re trying to grow it, support one another, and keep our dollars working at home.

In addition to raising cows, I am also a rodeo bull rider and a professional photographer, specializing in rodeo photography and portraits.
