Jonas's story

In the last five years, I have provided creative direction and comprehensive engineering implementation at two award winning startup companies, Fenix International and Greenlight Planet. Both are dedicated to providing affordable access to clean energy for the next billion people in emerging economies.

In the midst of this work, I traveled to Oaxaca Mexico, and was invited to stay in the indigenous town of Teotitlan del Valle. There I learned how to make chocolate the traditional way - open fire roasted, hand peeled within sight of their sacred mountain, and stone ground. The resulting chocolate paste was fresher and more delicious than any chocolate I had ever tasted before.

I wanted to share this authentic cacao experience with friends and family back home, so thirty months and hundreds of pounds of cacao later I am launching Firefly Chocolate in Sebastopol, CA.

I am a dual citizen of Germany and the United States, grew up in Boston, and have lived in the SF Bay Area for over 10 years. I received my BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, am a recipient of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, and graduated from the Regenerative Design and Nature Awareness program.
