A loan of $2,500 helped bring a new product to market, called "Desert Soil Amend" and to upgrade some of our existing tools and equipment.

Rene's story

I was born in Texas and moved to Central California when I was 6 years old.

During high school, I took print shop classes at Delta College. That’s right, I was in the same class as adult men and women! What a wonderful learning experience! It was very rewarding and I got a job at a print shop right after graduating.

After working in several print shops, I got hired at a large publishing house in Los Angeles as the head printing buyer.

Since I was a journeyman in printing, I decided to go out on my own (along with my wife, Patty) and we started a printing related shop near downtown LA. We ran that shop for about 13 years and then we merged with another company.

I'm very proud that we were able to grow our business to 25 staff and had a gross income of about $125,000 per week ($1,500,000 per year.) Also, I am proud to say that I haven’t gotten a paycheck from any other company since then. I’m truly an entrepreneur.

I've also had some fun investing in real estate. Presently, I am a licensed real estate broker with the California Bureau of Real Estate.

In addition, I love the outdoors and enjoy photographing nature. I have traveled the southwestern US and photographed some of the finest vistas that nature has to offer.

Patty and I would love to see our business of worm castings with organic fertilizer to become even more success than the printing business we used to have.

It is so rewarding to set goals and work hard to see them come into reality. I can determined that my goals with this worm casting business will become a reality soon too!
