N. Leonard is the leader of Bwagonga Eco Bakyara Tukwatanise in Ibanda. She is a friendly and hard-working 40-year-old widow with 6 children aged 5-18 years. Leonard also cares for 2 orphans. All the children are in school from S.6 – P.1.

Leonard is a farmer who has been selling agricultural produce for 4 years. Mostly she sells matooke, which is used for making a local dish once boiled. In doing her business, she is faced with a challenge of debts: some of her customers come and load trucks of produce but make only partial payments, which sometimes affects her business and money flow. She hopes to expand her business as well as attain the best education for her children and all those that she cares for.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
