A loan of $5,000 helped successfully launch our specialty salad business by covering the operational start-up costs.

Lia's story

Fun. Energetic. Fresh. Modern. These phrases bring to mind all the characteristics my business partner Rachael Bane and I envision our business bringing to Pittsburgh’s local food scene with our start-up, MIX Salad Concept, Inc. As natives of Pittsburgh, Rachael and I both grew up in environments encouraging a love for local food, nutrition, and cooking with friends and family. Upon meeting at Chatham University through the school’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship, we found that we shared the same restless spirit to start something meaningful in the city that we love.

We quickly realized this entrepreneurial foundation, coupled with our healthy lifestyles (and penchant for spontaneous bursts of dancing) might just make for a dynamic duo. After almost two years of collaboration, market research, and concept development, we are finally ready to infuse our philosophy that good food=good health into a successful business. With MIX Salad Concept, Rachael and I seek to live by the motto—“Colorful food, Colorful Life…it’s Not Just Salad, it’s Art!”
