A loan of $10,000 helped build infrastructure for a small scale dairy facility.

Mike's story

In August of 2011 my younger brother was shot in the helmet by an enemy sniper and came home with a Traumatic Brain Injury. With limited options upon his termination of service, his family made their way to Kentucky. During his time on the farm we watched him grow, transform, and heal, both literally and figuratively.

Two years ago my brother and his family moved to North Carolina for employment. Over the past two years we both have worked locally and nationally to provide support and services to Farmer Veterans. While it is not farming, this has still allowed me to work with my brother on some level.

This year, thanks to help of the green investment group Iroquois Valley Farms, my brother and I have acquired the rights to a 126 Acre Organic Farm located on the foothills of the Appalachians in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. I will once again farm with my brother as we raise Certified Organic Jersey Cattle and Heritage Poultry.
