A loan of $5,000 helped develop the software needed to reduce the number of people and lives impacted by car accidents caused by Distracted Driving and Texting-While-Driving.

Peter's story

I grew up outside of New York City. My first jobs included shoveling snow and raking leaves for neighbors. I was also a ‘’paper boy’’, delivering the local paper to the community each day. During school breaks, I worked in construction, for moving companies, as a waiter, tended a landfill, as well as started my own (small) landscaping business.

I went to Regis High School, an all-boys Jesuit school in Manhattan that built the value of ‘’service to others’’ into all that we learned. The values of the Regis Community still guide me today, as we were taught to use our education and skills to make the world a better place. The School also taught me the important value of diversity, which has contributed greatly to my life-long curiosity of learning about and living among other cultures.

I then left New York for Virginia, where I was selected to join the Navy's Officer training program. I served as a Naval Officer from 1996 to 2001, with my last assignment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Post-Navy, I went to graduate school and then spent a decade working in large companies in the US and Brazil. I left Brazil and came back to the US without a job in late 2013, which is when (and why!) I decided to launch my start-up career.

Looking back on my professional challenges and hobbies, I’ve always liked to build things. I think I started to develop the idea for this technology start-up because it’s a way I can build something that will benefit all of us.
