A loan of $5,000 helped start the architectural drawings needed to open a new location in Silver Spring, MD.

Pennye's story

I grew up in Texas, and worked on small farms and ranches when I was young. I trained horses as a teenager, and I have always loved all types of animals. After a successful career as a personal property appraiser (fine jewelry), and in website development and design, I found myself wanting to do something for animals and the community we live in.

When my partner and I decided to open our first store in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington DC, it was a catalyst to a new career in which I could combine my love of animals and health & wellness. We decided to apply sensible, green living standards to the products we offer in the store and really started to see our customer's companion animals thrive. Over two years ago we expanded to another location in an underserved area of Hyattsville, Maryland and are seeing that neighborhood 'grow up' around us in the Arts District.

This year we made a decision to continue to open additional store locations by growing the businesses naturally, and this new location is perfect for our expansion. We are very excited to be in a location that will serve the Silver Spring, Bethesda, and Chevy Chase communities in Maryland.
