A loan of $5,000 helped develop a website and purchase enough shoes to launch my business.

Jayme's story

I grew up in Stuttgart, which is a small town in southern Arkansas. It was a wonderful place to grow up, and I distinctly remember the wonderful shops from my childhood that were located on and around Main Street. Those small business owners were heroes to me and I dreamed of owning my own business someday. During my high school and college years, I worked in retail shops to earn extra money. I loved retail so much that it became my career. I have since been a manager and buyer for several upscale boutiques over the years and I co-owned a clothing and gift store with my sister, Amy Davis. We started our business by renting a room in the Shoppes on Woodlawn in 2003 when they first opened. I did custom children's paintings and we also went to market to find unique gift ideas for children. In April of 2005 we opened Lauren J., a boutique for women and children located in historic Park Hill in North Little Rock. I had to close my store late in 2006 for personal reasons and have recently been working in the non-profit sector, which is how I learned about Kiva. My dream is to someday have my own storefront again. I know I can make it happen!
