A loan of $3,000 helped buy licensing and insurance, advertising, and raw materials for my business.

Maria's story

I am María García and I was born in one of the biggest cities in the world, México City. A very cosmopolitan city where thousands and thousands of people walk by the majestic cathedral every day and those very old buildings from the 1600’s that have been turned into fancy restaurants and bars but have kept the mystery of their glorious times.

When I was a little girl, I deeply loved going to down town to the cathedral and watch the Aztec dancers performing their ritual o los voladores de Papantla (dance of the flyers) that, according to one myth, was created to ask the gods to end a severe drought, both acts very impressive and beautiful. Also beautiful and tasty the food that always surrounded these rituals or other cultural expressions that took place in la esplanada.

I grew up with food, outside of school there were always people selling all kind of snacks, getting home and swiping by the market to buy the ingredients for supper, “antojitos” were handy, helping my grandma making dinner and bringing all those colorful and tasty dishes to the table for everybody to eat left within me a deep mark of wholeness, friendship and family together.
