A loan of $5,000 helped secure rent for the commercial kitchen, purchase supplies for inventory and packaging, begin branding efforts, get my curriculum copyrighted and secure a line of credit for distributors.

Nadine's story

My name is Nadine Bailey-Joyner. About five years ago, I lost my job at Verizon due to downsizing. I was under tremendous stress, I was overweight, and I was physically sick. Always being a solutions-minded person, my proactive nature took over and I developed strategies to save my own life. I am a trained chef, and I hold an MBA. Those two skill-sets enabled me to create a nutrition program based on revamped recipes and culinary skills training. These revelations were occurring during the hotbed of obesity driven mandates and programs. I saw people just like me who were struggling to find ways to get healthy but could not afford the programs available. I saw a real need to connect with a undeserved community to educate and equip them with the skills they would need to save their own lives. I now see an additional need to commercially sell a line of affordable healthy desserts I've created. My goal is to "Improve Our Nation's Nutrition, One Healthy Recipe At A Time". The cooperative actions of nutrition education, culinary skills training and access to healthy dessert alternatives create a possibility to affect a paradigm shift for better health and nutrition in families.
