A loan of $3,000 helped purchase the equipment needed to start our poultry processing facility on our homestead farm.

Marianne's story

Jonathan and I currently live on 20 acres in rural Alexander Arkansas. While our lives operate in tandem now, we grew up in very different geographical environments. Jonathan is from St. Louis while I grew up in Arkansas. Our interest in the arts is initially what brought us together. But, common goals and determination leave us where we are today. Trained in Art Education I am on track to be an art teacher. Jonathan is a musician turned chef and operates “The Kitchen” at White Water Tavern where he has built a menu, without pretense, around sourcing local and sustainable ingredients. We try to live a life that is sustainable and resourceful both out of determination to contribute to the world more than we take, but also very much out of necessity. Hunting, fishing and growing and preserving our own food helps keep our cost of living low and our self worth high. We call our homestead farm Vader View Acres and we are currently raising heritage breed poultry (chickens, ducks, turkeys) as well as goats. We have built the farm using reclaimed materials and are in a constant state of learning new things about animals, building, and homesteading in general.
