A loan of $10,000 helped create a sustainable water supply for our organic fruit and vegetable farm.

Josh's story

As a fifth generation farmer, I grew up both on the farm and in the city. I have learned the ways of conventional row crop farming and alternative vegetable farming in the rich delta soil of our family farm. I have also traveled and studied organic agriculture in Santa Cruz, CA through the Centers For Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems apprenticeship program in 2007.Though I am emotionally and physically still committed to my family's farm, my wife and I have begun our own small scale cerified organic fruit & vegetable (and eventually pork & goat) farm closer to our farmer's markets in central Arkansas.

Our family's products have been sold in the local food system for nearly a hundred years, and as the face of the local food system is changing, so are we. We are becoming more conscious about how we treat our plants and animals and we are helping our friends and neighbors learn as well. We hope to build our local food system by becoming part of the movement to teach and empower everyone to support a strong local food system.
