A loan of $5,000 helped pay for the talent and materials needed to produce a play.

Db's story

In fifth grade I got this idea in my head that I was going to produce a haunted house in my mom's basement. I don't know how or why, but 20 years ago my mom said, “yes” and my passion began to take shape. I grew up in a blue collar neighborhood in St. Louis that became testing ground. We changed venues almost yearly, but I kept the haunted house going through my senior year of high school. I spent the rest of my time acting and doing tech for the school plays. I went to college on a performance scholarship, moved to Chicago after graduation and quickly met and fell in love with a fiery Detroit girl. I came to share her passion for Detroit, and after six years of marriage and two kids Detroit offered so much possibility that we decided to begin the next chapter of our lives here.
