A loan of $5,000 helped acquire a commissary for the first year.

Andrew's story

I was raised in Louisiana where I was introduced to good southern style bar-b-que as a way to enjoy country living. When I was a very small tot, I believed one day I would be a bar-b-que business owner. Today I have come to believe in my dream. After graduation from Ritenour High School in St. Louis, MO In 1976, I moved to Rockford IL to begin a career as a die cast machine operator. In 1981, I was involved in a work accident that left me disabled from working up to the present. When attempting to return to work I suddenly had barriers to face that I never imagined. After my injury I was faced with issues facing most disabled people; how would I be treated as a disabled person seeking to return to work? This challenge has been a crippling factor in my recovery. Today with the help of my childhood dream and my desire to persevere from life’s pitfalls, I am determined to succeed in my bar-b-que business.
