A loan of $575 helped to purchase groceries in bulk for re-sale.

Lydia's story

Lydia S. is twenty-eight years old. She is married and has two children. She lives with her family at Bawjiase in the central region, Ghana.

Lydia runs a grocery shop to help her husband support the family. She has been in business for two years now. She sells items such as tins of Milo (malted milk powder), milk, sugar, bread, tinned fish, etc. Lydia procures her goods from wholesalers in the big cities such as Accra.

She wants a loan to expand the size of her shop and also buy goods in bulk. She hopes to increase her profit margin to enable her to save more to support her family, especially her kids' education. She belongs to a trust bank group called ‘shining star’. The group members guarantee for one another as collateral to access the loan.
