Ruqaiya M. Akbar Group's story

Ruqaiya baji is an uneducated woman from Lahore, Pakistan, a city famous for its historical places and Punjabi foods. She has been a part of this city for the past 25 years. Her husband is named M. A. and he runs a dairy business. He has been in this business for 10 years. Ruqaiya baji helps him milk the two buffalo. Their eldest son also works with them, while the other two sons are enrolled in the local school and are getting an education. Ruqaiya baji is applying for a loan so they can buy another buffalo to expand their dairy business.

Ruqaiya baji is the leader for this group loan which includes four other women from her locality. The loan will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. Bushra baji wants a loan to repair her Shahzore rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle), Irshad begum will buy garments to sell, and Nasreen baji plans to buy a molding machine. Hajran baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop. The members of a group loan mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
