A loan helped to buy banana seeds.

Regina's story

Regina (pictured above with her last born), started farming approximately fifteen years ago, and although she began farming as a hobby, it eventually became her career. Her farm is located in the Nkubu area of Kenya, and houses poultry, banana farming and dairy cows. Regina passionately loves banana farming.

However, Regina's biggest challenge is lack of funds, which is why she is kindly seeking a loan to buy banana seeds and increase her banana farming business.

Banana farming is one of the more profitable business ventures in Kenya, and you don’t need to be a large-scale farmer to benefit from it. Through the loan, Regina will be able to sell bananas and banana leaves to the already existing market.

Regina has been facing challenges accessing finances, but she feels relieved knowing that institutions such as Juhudi Kilimo via Kiva are there to make her dream come true. She underwent training through Juhudi Kilimo, learning that saving is a continuous process in many microfinance institutions. Through the loan, Regina's income will increase and her life will permanently change, leading to better living conditions for her family and a positive impact on the community.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens and farming equipment.
