A loan helped to purchase a vehicle for his safari tourism business.

Olivier's story

Olivier is a native Rwandan with nine years experience tour guiding. He has previously worked as a contracted guide, but recently Olivier wanted to open his own business. With more than 100,000 foreign tourists each year, Rwanda has some spectacular sites for visitors to see, such as the mountain gorillas and Lake Kivu. Olivier launched Great Apes Safari with hopes of becoming the best among locally owned tour groups and hopes to prove that Rwandan tour operators are as good as their Ugandan and Kenyan neighbors.

In order to fully start his business, Olivier needs a comfortable safari car. So far, he has already saved up half the cost of the vehicle and needs financing to cover the balance. With this vehicle, Olivier will be able to profit more from his trips because he won't need to rent a car from another operator. In addition, Olivier can rent the car out when he isn't using it to make some additional revenues.

Tourism is one of Rwanda's largest growth industries. Because of this, there are a number of larger foreign tour operators working in the space. Often this bigger companies are able to capture more of the market because they have the capital required to purchase vehicles.

AEC wants to help Olivier compete with these foreign companies. With his experience, focus, and fluency in many international languages, AEC knows he will do a great job.

Thank you for helping make Great Apes Safari one of Rwanda's best Rwandan tour companies.
