Souleymane's story

Mr. Souleymane S. is a 30 year old married man and the father of two children. He and his wife are monogamous and live with their children in the Torakabougou quarter in the city of Bougouni (in the 3rd administrative region in the Republic of Mali). Not having gone through the education system, he quickly began trying to make a living, namely daily work with masons, shepherding and other jobs in the countryside. None of these activities succeeded for him. Thus, he decided to take up the purchase and sale of various shop items. He took his first steps into the business with his older brother, a specialized merchant in general commerce. With five years’ experience, Mr. Souleymane S. has well mastered the holding of, and resulting business from these various products, which are very sought after in Bougouni. Mr. Souleymane S., concerned with satisfying the needs of his clientele, decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution with whom it will be his first individual loan. He operates in Bamako (the capital of Mali) alongside wholesalers and makes sales in his store to a clientele composed of every social class. With his loan, Mr. Souleymane S. counts on coming to earn a monthly income of 32 500 FCFA which will serve to pay back the interest payments of the loan and to expand his store.
