Confiance Group's story

The six members of the group Confiance are all married women who average 37 years of age and 4 children each. They live mainly in monogamous families in Ouayerma I, a district in Sikasso City (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They are collaborating with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to satisfy the needs of their customers and are now on their 8th solidarity loan. All the preceding loans were correctly repaid. The group members do a diversity of work, including selling mobile phone cards, ginger (for making local soft drinks), condiments, and grilled meat kebobs.

With this new loan, they intend to buy 25 mobile phone cards, one sack of sugar, two 100-kg sacks of ginger, three packages of condiments, ten liters of cooking oil, five kilos of meat, and five sacks of charcoal. Supplies are gotten at the grand marketplace of Sikasso City and in neighboring towns. The merchandise is sold, in mostly cash transaction, to customers composed of men and women at different marketplaces in the city and in the area.

The group members each envision realizing an average monthly profit of 12,500 franc CFA. A portion of the profits will put into savings, and the other portion will be invested in business. Their ambition is to increase their turnover, so as to satisfy their customers better.

In this group: Kadi, Fatoumata, Kamba, Salimata, Kadia, Awa
