A loan helped to buy more crates of soda, beer, sugar and other items to sell.

Spedito's story

Spedito is married with three children and lives in Kamwenge, Uganda. He is a coffee farmer but opened a small retail shop to earn extra income. He started his business because the demand for general merchandise seemed to be high. The main setback to his plans, however, has been an increased number of bad debtors who pay late or not at all.

Spedito has applied for a 2,000,000 UGX loan through Kiva's field partner Hofokam to buy more crates of soda, beer, sugar and other items to sell. In the future he hopes to expand his shop into a good-sized store. He also wants all of his children to earn degrees so as to help them to earn a good living.

This loan is special because:

It targets extremely rural populations.
