Elena's story

Elena is a 38-year-old beloved mother who lives in her parents' home with her 41-year old husband Elias and her two sons: Willy, age 20 and Javier, age 15. Elena hopes to provide her children with a good post-secondary education. She walks with her ice cream cart every day in the streets of Juliaca, looking for clients who would like to enjoy her delicious products. She is a very happy person and always serves her customers with a smile on her lips. What she likes most about her job is seeing the happy faces of children whose parents have bought them the ice cream they wanted so much. The hardest part of her job, however, is having to walk all day under the harsh sun, which makes her extremely worn out.
Elena has spent 14 years doing this job, and she hopes to be able to improve her business, and purchase her own ice cream cart, as the one she currently uses is rented from the company. Owning her own cart would allow her to increase her income and gradually get closer to her goals. This is her fifth loan with Kiva partner MFP. She has been very punctual with her prior payments and hopes to be so this time as well. In her village bank she is much appreciated by the other members, as she is very responsible. With the money requested, she will buy more ice cream in order to sell more in her workday.
