A loan of $325 helped purchasing fertilizer.

Silvino's story

Silvino is 35 years old, has been married for 8 years, and has two children. When he was a boy he lived near a village where his parents were dryland farmers—they would wait for the rain in order to cultivate the land. Once he had his own family Silvino moved to his wife’s village, where he farms on irrigated land below the village. Ever since then he no longer has to wait until the months of September or October to plant (as is the case for dryland farming). Every time Silvino harvests potatoes, he plants peas, and in other fields he is preparing to plant the next crop of potatoes. Although there are times when the price of potatoes is lower at the market, it is very profitable when the price goes up. It is for this reason that Silvino is loyal to this tuber, as growing potatoes enables him to meet the needs of his family. Silvino is a very gracious customer every time he meets with the other members of his communal bank. This is his 7th loan with Kiva partner MFP, and he has always been good in making his payments. The money that Silvino is asking for this time will be used to purchase chemical fertilizers so that he can fertilize his next crop of potatoes.
