A loan of $550 helped purchasing beauty products, school supplies, and food preparation supplies.

Delia Esther's story

Delia Esther Z. C. is 52 years old and is the secretary of her communal bank. She lives in Aurora Díaz in the Salaverry district, province of Trujillo, La Libertad department, Peru. She completed her secondary education, but did not continue her studies because her parents did not have the means to support her further. She has 8 children, 4 of whom are still dependent on her.

Delia has a little bookstore and grocery store, which she runs out of her home. She began by selling handicrafts (cloth toys), and for the last 3 years has sold school supplies. Over time Delia has added new products to her business so that she now sells books, and, in addition, earns a living selling beauty products. She used her profits to expand her business to include selling groceries.

She used the first loan of 300 soles that she received from the “Jerid Camino al Éxito II” (“Jerid Road to Success II”) communal bank to invest in purchasing school supplies.

Delia will use the current loan of 1700 soles to invest in purchasing beauty products, school supplies, and food preparation supplies. The loan is to be repaid in 6 months.

Delia’s dream (which she has achieved) is to have a bookstore and grocery store that she runs out of her home.

She belongs to the ‘mothers of their community’ club.
