A loan of $650 helped purchasing fertilizer.

Catalina's story

Catalina is 42 years old, has been married for 9 years, and has 5 adult children who no longer live at home. She and her husband provided for their children by farming—thanks to their crops, Catalina’s children had the opportunity to obtain technical degrees, which now serve them well in supporting their own families. Throughout the years Catalina and her husband have grown potatoes and peas; both of these crops are very profitable, and Catalina gives thanks to the land and to God for providing them with such good crops. Now that their children have gone off on their own, Catalina and her husband are very happy about their achievements. Although the couple is no longer responsible for supporting a large family through their hard work, they made their living through farming and have much affection for that way of life. Their children have suggested that they leave the farm, but Catalina and her husband prefer to stay because the farm has been an important part of their life and they love the land. In previous loan cycles Catalina worked as a member of a communal bank, and she is now in her 7th loan cycle with Kiva partner MFP; she has worked very responsibly the whole time to make her loan payments. Catalina plans to use the money she is requesting at this time to purchase fertilizer for her crops.
