Mireille's story

Mireille S. was born around 1977. She is married to Sylvain Sogbossi and the mother of two children, of whom one is enrolled in school. Mireille lives in the Fidjrossè neighborhood, a working class district of the commune of Cotonou, economic capital of Bénin. Mireille sells cosmetics and clothing. She has had two loans through ALIDé, thanks to which she expanded her business to include selling shoes and costume jewelry. Today, Mireille wishes to bolster her working capital and further develop her business. That is why she is requesting a third loan from ALIDé.

The significance of ALIDé in the local language of Bénin, Fon, is "there is always a pathway for the poorest of the poor. Bénin is a small West African country next door to Nigeria; the GDP of its inhabitants stands at US$ 1,500. ALIDé offers special loans at 0% interest for very vulnerable persons, and it is in a group which will soon be offering a micro health insurance program for micro-loan beneficiaries.
