Hawa's story

Hawa A. started selling fish nine years ago at Eguase in the central region of Ghana. Hawa prepares and serves her customers with very tasty, good quality fish from her stand. She has a great spirit to convince her suppliers to get more fish when there is a high demand and supply is low. She used to sell fishe with her mother when she was a little girl.

Through she has gotten to know most of the fishermen at the seashore, she sometimes buys fish on a credit basis. Hawa buys stocks of fish and smoked them at a nearby stand. She has a large customer base that travels from other parts of the region to buy her fish. Hawa also trades in food stuffs like maize, peanuts etc. She takes stock of goods from northern Ghana.

Hawa is now 50 years old married and mother with six children. Currently four are in school and the other two are working. Hawa requests the loan to upgrade her stock of goods. She belongs to a village bank called ‘Otease’ which means ‘He Lives.’
