A loan helped a member to buy fertilizer, seeds and pesticides for her watermelon and cucumber planting business.


Sok's Group's story

Sok is 62 years old and is a widow with seven children. She is a citizen living in a rural village of the Ek Phnom district in Cambodia’s Battambang province. Sok is a hardworking single mother who offers a decent life for her family by farming rice and planting watermelon and cucumber. She is able to earn approximately 48,000KHR daily and she saves 10,000 KHR after offsetting her daily living costs. Sok has received six previous loans through the Kiva partner VisionFund that have enabled her to gradually improve her family’s living standards.

Sok is the leader of a three-woman loan group requesting a 3,400,000 KHR loan. She will use her portion of the loan to buy fertilizer, seeds and pesticides for her watermelon and cucumber planting business. Sok hopes to smartly use her loan to continue to improve her family's living standards.
