A loan helped to buy dishcloths.

Ana Beatriz's story

Ana is a member of the Estrellitas community bank. She lives on the outskirts of the city of Cuenca, a cold-climate city which, in December 1999, was named a World Heritage Site. It is surrounded by four rivers and has great natural beauty. The local people are very warm-hearted, kind, cordial and friendly. They maintain the culture and traditions of their ancestors.

Ana is 46 years old, married, and has three children who are 27, 20 and 11 years old. Her eldest daughter is married and lives independently. Her second child (a son) works in order to cover his personal expenses and her youngest [son] attends school in the city. Her husband is a photographer by profession. They do not own their own home but live in rental accommodation.

Our member has been selling dishcloths as an itinerant vendor for five years. She started out in this business as she saw that she needed to contribute financially to her household and get her children ahead in life.

Ana invested the money from her previous loan in buying dishcloths. She will use her new loan to buy more dishcloths so that she can continue growing in her business. Her business is doing well. She has good days and bad days but hasn't experienced any difficulties in making her monthly loan repayments. She likes her community bank because of the friendship that exists within the group and because the loans allow them to increase their business merchandise.

Ana's dream is to own her own home.
