A loan helped to purchase more fashionable clothes for resale.

Jessica's story

Jessica is 30 years old and lives in the town of Maganjo in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children, with 3 of them currently in school.

For the past 16 years, Jessica has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes, like shirts, dresses etc.

To help expand her business, Jessica has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more fashionable clothes for resale.

It will help Jessica to generate greater profits and improve on her standard of living by providing enough food for her family. Jessica hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build a house of her own.

Jessica is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Jessica who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
