A loan helped to purchase more raw food to cook for resale.

Juliet's story

Juliet is 42 years old and lives in the town of Ggaba in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, two of whom are currently in school. For the past eight years, Juliet has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells all kinds of cooked food.

To help expand her business, Juliet has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more raw food to cook for resale. It will help Juliet to generate greater profits and improve her standard of living by providing enough food for her family. Juliet hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build a house of her own.

Juliet is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Juliet who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
