A loan helped our certified MBE, DBE, and ACDBE business to hire qualified marketing and distribution personnel.

Jt's story

Born to a mother who cooked for plantation owners in Northern Louisiana, I saw how her barbeque skills delighted the pallets of everyone around the table. My passion began with her but really emerged by a desire to support my big brother who was a struggling Vietnam veteran who needed a hand up. Opening a restaurant and ultimately bottling bbq sauce was the apparent solution since he was so talented at the art of grilling.

The restaurants are now closed but today, only after three years entwined with Covid -19 challenges, I am in 40 stores and still negotiating with potential clients for growth and expansion. The flavor profile as well as the clean ingredients in my premium sauce puts it in demand; I would like to make JT's bar-b-que a household name. My goal is to add other products that are currently in research and development.

I dream of mentoring others who aspire to start a small business. It gives me great pleasure to work alongside my wife of 46 years who has the same vision. This means an insistence on the highest quality wholesome ingredients, exploring humanitarian outreaches, and implementing a strong business acumen as we move forward. I also aspire to broaden my charitable giving to Community Renewal in our hometown, Shreveport, Louisiana, as the business grows.

This loan is special because:

It supports a Black entrepreneur in expanding their business.
