A loan helped me to buy equipment to expand my sewing capabilities.

Nathalie's story

I have been fascinated by textiles and fashion design from a very early age. Although I was born in Congo, DRC, I was taught to sew while living in a refugee orphanage in Kenya. The nuns provided me with the gift of a skilled trade.

Today, having made my way to the United States and becoming a citizen, I translate my sewing and design skills into exquisite one-of-a-kind garments and accessories from my own designs. My signature designs are vibrant cotton and wool dresses and jackets that combine French fashion with African colors and American styles.

I have built my business with personal funds and help from friends. I am ready to take the next steps in my business growth. Until now I have been limited by having only one sewing machine. If the machine breaks or if I want to hire help, I cannot. Kiva funds will allow me to purchase additional equipment and hire additional craftspeople to implement my fashions.
